The tables of St. Joseph are organized by the families of some small towns of Salento on March 19 of each year in honor of St. Joseph. These big tables are made with a variety of dishes from the wild onions to rapini, “vermiceddhri” (a kind of pasta with cabbage), fried fish, pittule, zeppola, bread shaped like a big donut with fennel and oranges. Everything is eaten at noon on March 19 by so-called “saints” played by friends or relatives of the families ranging from a minimum of three (St. Joseph, baby Jesus and the Virgin Mary) to a maximum of thirteen.
