For the first time in Italy a school will handle a property confiscated to the Mafia. This is La Dimora del Barone in Altamura. The school is the Majorana Hotel Institute of Bari. The proceeds will go to the training of students.
Dimora del Barone has been closed for over two years, as it had been left abandoned at the time of the seizure, in the midst of an event: tableware and furniture were still there. This ‘masseria’ is located in Contrada Sgarrone, in Altamura. The property is going to open on Thursday, June 26, 2014.
The staff will be composed of internships students and recent graduates from the institute contracted by the Cooperative Majorana, created by school director Paola Petruzzelli, in order to create jobs and transform the institution into a company that allows kids to do work experience and enrich their resume. The guys there are doing their best for the ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for this evening. Training and employment is the aim of the school.
The farm has been found in good condition from the structural point of view, but the costs have increased in the past three weeks.
The inauguration ceremony is going to be attended the prefect of Bari, Antonio Nunziante, undersecretaries Angela D’Onghia and Massimo Cassano, the commissioners of the Puglia Region, Alba Sasso Stone and Loredana Capone, on. Massimo D’Alema, and the mayor of Bari, Antonio Decaro.
